At last Wood ‘n’ Pecker had recovered enough to set the hash promised last week. Though how most of the hashers missed and drove past the first circle check at Comfortless Cove we’ll never know. Hazards were briefed as edges, cliffs and a little climbing. Five circle checks and an extra unmarked check point (?) made it sound like a gruelling run in the sun. On-on towards the coast. Wood n Pecker is known for his water’s edge trails. The nearer the sea the better. Following the hash to the north, some took the more inland routes, missing the rock edges and skipping along tracks. The kids however took every cliff in their stride, teasing wary adults in their quest for adventure.
The first circle check gave a chance to catch up with the runners, Bladerunner had to rescue Mucky Princess who had tried to take a shortcut across the cliff. Advice; Follow the hash! Gumpy Two Scoops proved a stable support for those caught with hands on hips needing to forfeit 10 press ups. On on along ancient tracks and through an ancient graveyard. Bloodsucker briefed those curious ones that the excavation in 2007 found the tomb which was unearthed to hold a white teenage male. This prompts more questions than it answers. On on.
The little people were guided away from the next rock face and escorted round a sandy bay to a rocky outcrop. Geocache coordinates are difficult to follow here but there is an official Geocache nearby. Not to be beaten, Secret Squirrel and Sniffy found the box, a pen needed to be replaced before we all signed the book took a spider and placed a party bag in the box. A blast from Bladerunner’s vuvuzela and on on with the hashy trail.
The route followed tracks, crossed rocks and found more stable Klinka crossings all the way round Pyramid Point to an old track. Here the runners had decided to abandon the trail and follow their nose running the pipeline back to the beer kegs. The Walkers and Talkers diligently picked their way between the stones finding themselves on said old route which runs from Long beach down to the arches near Red Rock.
On the way back, the little people, Moneypotamus and Duckie had made friends with the large friendly dinosaur waiting by the track. Crossing the road, the path was picked up again and took us back into the carpark where the FRBs had popped open the munchies and opened the kegs.
A rousing Hashy Birthday was sung for Bloodsucker, glasses filled and raised. Thanks Wood’n’Pecker for taking us round those lesser visited parts of the island. A great hash.
