News from Two Boats School

Back to school for a busy 7 weeks before the long Christmas holiday. Spare a thought for Year 11 who have their first GCSE examination on the 9th November. Year 10 also have examinations to look forward to next year so the pressure is increasing for them.

Sex and Relationship Education

We are very pleased to welcome Tierl Thomson and Paula Power from the Christopher Winter Project to the school. They ran a day of training for all staff during half term and are working with Year 5/6 and Year 9 on Monday and Tuesday. They are here as part of a DfID initiative towards improving SRE in the South Atlantic. It has been invaluable to be able to receive training in this important area of the curriculum as well as using their expertise to support our work in the classroom.

School Governors Committee

The SGC serves as an important link between the school and the community we serve. They form a crucial support mechanism and are an invaluable part of the oversight of the school especially when there are changes in the leadership of the school and/or AIG, such as is the case at the moment. Rod Duguid, our outgoing Parent Governor, leaves the island next week. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank him for serving on the School Governors Committee over the last 18 months. His input has been invaluable and his counsel will be missed.

I am delighted to announce that our new Parent Governor is Trevor Fowler. The school looks forward to working with him over the next two years.
