Scouts bonfire on Longbeach was the meet for this week’s easier hash, but unfortunately the little hashers didn’t turn up, something about unable to drag them out of the sea! The hazards this week were quite tame apart from the Mexican thorn and a couple of boulders. Rumour was that it took the hounds quite a number of hours to cut their trails through the thorn through promised virgin hash territory with the promise of a site of interest.
Intrigued, the ON-ON was given, when we found the Hash it was round then along the bottom of the hill round the corner then up a small gorge on to the top and a good view of the Flipper football match. At the first circle check, hash master was dishing out the fines of ten press ups for hands on hips or folded arms much to the amazement of the UK hashing visitors (they don’t do this at those foreign hashes, the ‘priest’ hands out forfeits, rewards and punishments at the end). Once we were all together the On-On was given and off we went up to the 2nd circle check on the path from the guns to the water tanks and more press ups. An opportunity for a photo shot of the pink monkey (Hippo), On-On heads down through a Mexican thorn tunnel round to the left over the Klinka and to the next circle check with another good view of Longbeach. Just a little further down the hill to our first point of interest; a WII observation point.
On up round then down then up a small climb and across into a water course for the 4th circle check, On-On up then left and down the Klinka (a bit like the coal shoot) look for the hash. On the way to long beach we encountered a few sharp turns looking for the blobs. Following the lava flow through more thorny tunnels we came across an old dump. A fork lift and American trucks dating from 1940s. Dipstick was so excited, taking photos of the VIM numbers to check old records. On-On, where another car haul was found, this time a mini and rather cute convertible (triumph spitfire?) must return another day. Weaving back round the Klinka the home arrow was found. A detour to the Hawaiian night at the saints club was suggested, but kegs of beer were waiting.
Hashing stories swopped, chilli was washed down with beer and return trips planned to those dumps and vehicles. Thanks Tom Thumb and Blood Sucker for an interesting and informative run around the rocks.
Next Week: Wood ‘n’ Pecker The Quarry behind Cross Hill 4.30 (short track on right after the lizard)
