The first Semi-Final of the ‘Flipper’ Football Tournament saw the Scouts play VC Milan.

It was good to see an amazing turnout of the ‘Tangerine’ Cheerleaders and supporters filling up the stools at the Georgetown Sports Field.  Andrew’s Uncle Mark and Aunt Julie are visiting from the UK to also commemorate the 10th ‘Flipper’ Tournament and also his Aunt Sharon and Partner David with his son Coban decided to visit the island en-route to the Falklands to meet with other members of the family for the occasion. There were chants and ‘twirling’ from the Cheerleaders amongst the roaring of Cheryl’s Siren as she wound it up every so often to cheer the Scouts on.

The Scouts Team are also made up of almost every player being connected to Andrew in some way or other.  There are the Scouts who knew him well, work colleagues, and of course family – cousins, uncles and acquaintances.

Players and Officials stood around the centre circle to observe the one minute silence.

The Referee’s whistle blew and the game got off to a start.

Tyler Benjamin did a brilliant pass which came to Geordie who took a shot at the goal.  Goal keeper Martin Bagley managed to save but fumbled and then managed to grasp the ball.

Gavin ‘Chocolate’ Yon kicked the ball to Aaron ‘Boot’ who headed it and Chocolate then ran in and kicked the ball at the goal, but it went out just wide off the goal.

A corner was then taken by ‘Boot’, but the ball went too high over the cross bar.

Ashley Clingham, kicked the ball across to Aaron ‘Boot’ who made an attempt to score, but it went just past the goal.

A corner was taken by Jason Augustus but was cleared by the Scout’s defence.

A corner was taken by Chocolate and was received by Geordie who did a flip kick which resulted in the ball going just outside of the goal post.

Jermaine ‘Cercy’ O’Connor took a shot at the goal but was saved by Robert ‘Puckto No. Three’ George.

‘Puckto’ then rushed out to do a save and Philly ‘Arthur’ Yon did an overhead kick, but the ball went over the cross bar.

Geordie then did a run down the right wing to score, but the ball ran on into the goalie’s hands.

Mario Anthony (Captain of Scouts Team), kicked the ball at the goal, but goalie – Martin saved it, dropped it and grabbed it again before Ashley ‘Dutch’ Lawrence could kick it in.

Ashley did a brilliant pass to Aaron ‘Boot’, but Shavarn Young kicked it clear before ‘Boot’ had a chance to score.

Chocolate then saw a chance and took a shot that went out high above the cross bar.

Meanwhile Mario and Corey Anthony (brothers) had a passing technic going - thus keeping the ball in the Scouts possession for the best part of the first half.

Another corner was taken by Jason Augustus, but VC Milan strikers failed to make contact again.

The Ref’s whistle blew and the score at half time was 0 – 0.

The second half commenced and Shavarn Young crossed the ball for Errol Thomas (VC Milan’s Captain), who headed it towards the goal, but the ball was kicked out by the Scout’s defence.

Mario Anthony and Kurt ‘Bupa’ Jonas both went in for the ball and banged heads – leaving both players stunned for a few minutes.

A good attempt to score was then made by Racy Leo from out wide, but the ball was saved by ‘Puckto’s sure hands!!

Neil ‘Dickerboy’ Lawrence then took a long range shot, but the ball went too wide off the goal.

Geordie again had another chance to score, but the ball went high over the cross bar.

Martin ‘Whitey’ Cranfield took a shot from out wide landing the ball straight into ‘Pucktos’ hands.

Tyler Benjamin saw another chance to score, but kicked the ball too wide off the goal.

Philly Yon was substituted and Arnold Ernesta came on.

Arnold immediately chased the ball and did a header towards the goal, but ‘Puckto’ saved it.

A free kick was taken by Chocolate, but went straight into the possession of VC Milan’s defence.

The score was still 0 – 0.  Johnny Hobson – Scout Leader continued to shout at the Scouts from the side line.

A throw in by Ricco was received by ‘Boot’ who took a shot, but was it saved by Martin and immediately after Geordie took a shot at the goal, but it went over the cross bar. Geordie missed a chance to score for the Scouts again – girls on the stool were getting disappointed, but their disappointment was not for long.

Nicky Herne was substituted and Mark Anthony came on.

‘Puckto’ then ran back to make a save, but ended up falling, but the ball was cleared by Ashley Clingham.

A good free kick was taken by Tyler, but the ball landed in the keeper’s hands.

Ashley Clingham suddenly realised that he had lost his shoes along the way.

‘Bupa’ was substituted and Jonah Williams came on.

Tyler had another chance to score, but the ball was kicked away by Errol Thomas who defended strongly in VC Milan’s defence.

Arnold then had yet another attempt to score and fired away, but the ball went straight to the goal keeper’s hands.

Geordie then went running down the middle and fired the ball into the net bringing the Scouts into the lead and securing them a place in the ‘Flipper’ Final.

The Scouts had scored in the 88th minute.

Aaron ‘Boot’ had a brilliant game, but at that point came off following an injury and was therefore substituted and on came Robert Anthony, but no more he had run across the field the Full-time whistle blew.  The Scouts were through to the ‘Flipper’ Final.

The score at Full-time was Scouts – 1 – VC Milan – 0.

Well done to both Teams for an entertaining match - they both played really well! Congratulations to the Scouts!!

The Scouts go through to the Final which is to be played on Saturday 22nd October 2011.

Many thanks to Referee Eugene and Linesmen Nicky and Johnny for their time.

Anita.
