The New Horizons have been joining us on various activities over the past few weeks.
Ascension Island Conservation Department
The New Horizons have been joining us on various activities over the past few weeks. They have been taken to Shelly Beach to look at the endemic shrimp in the pools, as well the beached whale remains. Our seabird fieldworkers took the group to Mars Bay to look at sooty tern chicks and to gain an insight into the monitoring we do on Ascension.

Josh in the shade house potting off endemic plants
Last week we had Josh Yon, student at Two Boats School, join us for his work experience. He went to Letterbox with Nathan and Olivia, helped with endemic plant propagation in the shade tunnels and weeded in the restoration site on Green Mountain. Josh also helped with the New Horizon trip to Mars Bay.

Youth Worker – Kayshai Reynolds
Over the past five and a half weeks I have been working with the conservation team. I have learnt about, as well as visited, many remarkable places around the Island. In these few weeks I have seen and experienced more of ascension’s scenery, wildlife and plant life than I have in all of my ten years on the island. I have found the work which I have done with the conservation to be very rewarding, as I believe I am in some small way helping our small but magnificent island.
I would like to thank the conservation team for taking their time to help me understand the daily workings of conservation and for making my time here and the days to come very enjoyable.
Please be advised that due to on-going field work the Conservation Office will open from 7.30am -10am during week days. We open as normal on Saturdays, 10am-12noon, signs will be posted on the door when the office is closed.
