In St. Luke’s Gospel, Chapter 15, verses 1-32 are three parables. The first parable is about the shepherd who leaves the ninety nine sheep and goes to search for the lost one. In the second, the main focus is on the woman who has lost one out of the ten she had already. She searches diligently and never gives up until the coin is found. In both cases the shepherd and the woman called their friends and neighbours to celebrate and rejoice in finding their loss .
The third is a familiar one about the prodigal son. The father waits patiently for his son to come home and when he returns the father runs out to welcome him back and organises a party for his son who was lost and is found.
In the three parables we are told about rejoicing over something that has been lost and found. God is looking for us to continue to seek out the lost. When found, we can be sure there will be great rejoicing in heaven.
Have a peaceful week
Canon Clive
