An overcast afternoon found the hounds collecting at Uncle Fester’s patio, worried about getting a bit soggy.  After a brief huddle warning of all the usual hazards, it was on-on up the road to the stile.  No one took up Uncle Fester’s offer of an alternate route over the hill!  Probably because we all knew there would be plenty of up-up on an Uncle Fester hash as it was!

Over the stile we went and on to Two Boats and the first circle check.  Then, on up along the track until a tricky little turn that caught a few unawares, and wandering off in the wrong direction.  Here the climbing started.  We zig-zagged back and forth and headed to the cliff dwellings.  It’s hard to believe that Marines actually resided in these cliffs!  A few hardier hashers headed off up a steeper bit, but we all eventually caught up at the old hut.  A little bit of time was spent exploring, and then it was off on our upward climb.

Dodging yellow boy, the occasional cactus, and trying not to lose ground on the scree, we all made it to the big Eucalyptus tree and another circle check.  Then, the path got a bit familiar for those with a good memory!  A few months ago another Uncle Fester and Bloodsucker hash passed by this way.  Sure enough, we followed the familiar, climbed ever higher, and made it out to the mountain road.

From there, it was an easy downhill slide, literally, as we took the shortcuts down the power line.  Well, most of us, at least.  Honey Dunker and Major Fokker were seen taking the easier route along the ramps in a couple of places!  Back to Two Boats we went, and on through to the road, and Uncle Fester’s patio.

Uncle Fester’s fish curry was delicious, and lots of other treats fortified the tired, but still dry hashers.  This was a special birthday hash for Uncle Fester, so a rousing rendition of Hashy Birthday was sung, and he was presented with a yummy cake.  He was toasted with frozen beverages, and so the evening of merriment continued.  A new generation of Cavaliers is being trained, we think!

Thanks to Uncle Fester for a great hash.  At least no one could complain it was too hot!

Next Week:  Patio 13 (US Base)

Hare:  Bloodsucker
