Ascension : Hello from Two Boats School

Hello from Two Boats School

I would like to introduce myself as the new Headteacher of Two Boats School. I had the opportunity the meet many students, parents and staff during my initial visit in July and I am very grateful to Soo Matthews for the welcome and assistance she gave me throughout the week. She and other colleagues at AIG, both at the school and in Georgetown, planned a very thorough handover programme and induction to the island, which has been invaluable ahead of my formal start last week. I am also grateful to the large number of people I have met already since my return, who have made me and my family feel so welcome.

I am conscious that I take over a school with a long history of service to the Ascension Island community and I look forward to the challenge of continuing it’s development. My aim for education is simple. Children should enjoy school; it is a journey, not a race.  However, they must leave school with the skills, personal attributes and qualifications they need in order to aspire to make a successful and positive contribution to the global society we now live in.

Tuesday 31st August is a training day for all staff and school restarts for children on Wednesday 1st September at the usual time of 08:30 for Years 3 - 11 and 08:45 for Foundation Stage and Year 1&2 children. Year 7 – 9 will have PE on Wednesdays so students should bring their PE kit on the first day.

Bus pick ups from Georgetown at 07:40 Exiles, 07:45 Agency Car Park (Secondary) and 08:05 Exiles, 08:10 Agency Car Park (Primary).

I look forward to meeting students, parents and other members of the Island community in the coming weeks.
