Ascension : CENTENARY CAMP TARGET REACHED IN 14 MONTHS Submitted by The Islander (Cheryl Anthony) 22.07.2010 (Article Archived on 05.08.2010)
It’s the start of another week and for once there will be no more grey hairs emerging with worries over fundraising.
It’s the start of another week and for once there will be no more grey hairs emerging with worries over fundraising. Having said this I still always thoroughly enjoy every minute of it. Saturday 17th July 2010 was the end to our Centenary Camp Fundraising. We needed to raise £1,000.00 and our income was a whopping £1,272.05. There was a lot of concern when I announced in the Islander that we needed to raise £10,000.00 but we did it in 14 months!!
The afternoon commenced with mini miscellaneous stalls that included cakes, fudge and marshmallow also tie-dye T-shirts and Baby Rompers made by Kirsty and helped by Caitlin, Shannon D and Yours Truly. These items, if you are interested can be purchased from my home.
The kiddies enjoyed the beach games and not forgetting Jonathon King and Noddy who very bravely competed in the pillow fight with Noddy been knocked off twice. Going back to the photo shoot I am sure Jon was holding fast to Noddy’s arm to give him a good hard wallop!!
The day turned out brilliantly with the sun shining and no signs of rain. The fish fry, soup and hot dogs sold out late into the night. Freddy entertained us with his music from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. then the Atlantic Rock Band strummed (Johnny, Ally and Rolly), blow (Kerry on her trumpet) and bashed (Bunny on the drums) their tunes out until mid-night when Freddy resumed and everyone continued dancing until 3 a.m. of Sunday morning!!

For those of you who are new here on the Island and wondered what all the monies raised for the 1st Ascension Girlguiding Unit are for – here’s a little recap……..Five Guides and 2 Leaders were invited to camp with 30,000 worldwide Guides in Harewood House nr Leeds (a camp site which is the size of 75 football fields) from Saturday 31st Jul – 7th Aug and another camp called Branch Out (chilling time) at Waddow Hall from 7th Aug – 11th Aug when we will return home. The two days before camp we will spend sight-seeing in Leeds and visit Xscape. Once we have checked in at Brize after lunch on 11th Aug we will be off to Oxford City to see the sights and shop before returning to Brize for our return journey to Ascension and the camp will be like a dream but captured on camera and video to relive all the wonderful memories. The girls who are off to camp are:- Shannon Duncan, Shannon Yon, Caitlin Thomas, Shelly Williams, Imogen Henry and Christiane Anthony together with Kirsty and myself.
We will keep in touch thru the islander so you may follow our whereabouts.
