Mother’s Day is meaningful to us all. You do not have to be a young child to cherish your mother as age doesn’t come into it.

    ASCENSION ISLAND

Mother’s Day is meaningful to us all.  You do not have to be a young child to cherish your mother as age doesn’t come into it.  Mothers gave birth to us, fed us, looks after us etc…….Sunday 14th March, St. Mary’s Church was full to capacity with 117 adults and 56 children!!  How wonderful this would be if this amount were present every week or for our Family Services?  The singing that filled the church, was accompanied by our Church band, Guides and Brownies said Prayers for Mothers and was on duty for the collection.

The Rainbows did us proud in singing and signing the words to “If I Were A Butterfly”.  Just before the last hymn posies of daffodils (flown in from the UK by the RAF every year) were distributed to each child as they queued in front of the Altar, for them to give to their mums.  Grown ups too went to collect for their mum also.  There were refreshments of cakes and drinks served in the church after the service.

This was not the end of “Mother’s Day Celebration” for the 1st Ascension Girlguiding Unit put on a Mother’s Day Tea at the Two Boats Club Restaurant at 6 p.m.  Guides and Leaders were busy from 4:30 p.m. with setting the table with delicious amount of cakes in assortment shapes, sizes and flavours, quiche, cheese straws, fudge and tomato paste sandwiches!!  There also was a chocolate fountain in which the kiddies and adults could have fruit kebabs or marshmallows dipped in chocolate.  We filled 80 plates with assorted goodies and sold the lot!!  We walked out the Restaurant at 8:30 p.m. after the girls had cleaned the Restaurant to the way we found it.

We would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Delphia and her team for allowing us to use the Restaurant and for the colourful table cloths that set the place for a brilliant occasion.  THANK YOU Susie-Butchie – you know what for??????
