Ascension : St Mary's Church
Submitted by The Islander (Clive & Jenny Duncan) 19.02.2004 (Article Archived on 04.03.2004)

It is wonderful to be back on Ascension Island again.

Dear Friends

It is wonderful to be back on Ascension Island again. After spending approximately two weeks in the United Kingdom it was great to arrive in sunshine, which Jenny and I missed. In spite of the English weather, we were able to visit a number of places, which included Salisbury and
Winchester Cathedrals.

First, my grateful thanks to Fr. Brian for standing in for me during my absence from the Parish. We trust that you and Daphne will continue to enjoy your stay here.

Next, a little information about my visit to the United Kingdom, which as you know was to attend an Induction Course for Officiating Chaplins and Officiating Chaplains' Conference. I found the Induction Course and the Conference very interesting and useful, particularly when we were placed in discussion groups.

I looked forward to the evening when we could sit around chatting and listening to other Chaplains speaking about their work on the station, all very interesting.

Next Sunday, 22nd February, is "Thinking Day". There will be a Family Service (Parade) at 10.30.a.m. when the Girl Guides will be taking part in the service. Hopefully, our live band will accompany the singing. Do try and come along for this special service.

Mass will be celebrated at 8 a.m.

Have a nice week.

Canon Clive.
