Ascension : Church News
Submitted by The Islander (Clive & Jenny Duncan) 11.02.2010 (Article Archived on 25.02.2010)

The call of the first disciples.

Life was never going to be the same for Simon Peter and his companions after Jesus had used his boat to preach to the people who had gathered on the lake side to listen to his teaching.

When Jesus approached Simon Peter that day, he must have seen something about him that he had no difficulty in granting him the use of his boat.

Although fishing was an important occupation Jesus was calling Peter and his companions to an even more important occupation.  Knowing that Peter and his companions were capable of better things Jesus challenged them to leave their nets and become fishers of men.  Their response was immediate; they left everything behind and became his first disciples.

There are times when we underestimate our capabilities, but like the first disciples we need someone to challenge us to see what we are really capable of.

 Have an enjoyable week.

Canon Clive.
