Ascension : Farewell Beautiful Island

Farewell Beautiful Island

It is with much regret that I will be departing Ascension Island permanently on Tuesday 9th Feb 2010.

During my 5 years on this paradise isle I have made many good friends and enjoyed every second, I was always keen to get back from my leaves.

The warmth & friendliness of St Helena people is something you rightly should be proud of.

A special shout goes out to the staff of IDL and the VC bar and snack bar, with an even bigger shout to those I always refer to as “My Men” within AIG who are the best workforce anyone could ask for. Tony, Toby, Peter and Bobby jo  you have made my stay so much smoother and enjoyable.

I have thought about writing to the Guinness World Records to inquire whether I qualify for being made redundant twice within 10 weeks.

I will have very special memories of the Island which will stay with me for life; let’s hope I can find my way back here or St Helena in the future.

A heart felt thanks to everyone on the island and I wish all of you the very best for the future.

Alex Gordon
