BAPTISM OF JESUS

When we celebrate the Feast of the Baptism of Jesus we are reminded once again of our own baptism and what it means to us.  At our baptism God claimed us as his children and we become brothers and sisters of Christ.

When Jesus came to John the Baptist to be baptised, John was startled and unwilling to baptise him.  It was John’s conviction that it was he who needed what Jesus could give and not the other way round.

When John emerged his mission was to baptise and turn people to Christ. Jesus knew it was the right moment he had been waiting when he came to John to be baptised.  His baptism was a defining moment in his life as it marked the beginning of his public mission.

As we celebrate the baptism of Jesus every year we should also celebrate our baptismal day when we can give thanks to God for our baptism and what it means to us.

Have a pleasant week

Canon Clive
