John the Baptist was asked the question, “What must we do,” when he told everyone to repent and be baptised and prepare themselves for the coming of Christ. In other words they had to change their lives so John gave some specific instructions in response to their question.
“If anyone has two tunics he must share with the man who has none and the one with something to eat must do the same.” He told the tax collectors “Exact no more than your rate.” And the soldiers “no intimidation, no extortion, be content with your pay!”
Let us spend some time over the next few days and reflect on these instructions of John the Baptist and see how well they reflect in our lives today.
Have a pleasant week.
Canon Clive.
