Ascension : GUIDES’ OVERNIGHT SURVIVAL CAMP

GUIDES’ OVERNIGHT SURVIVAL CAMP

Friday evening the Guides made their way to Long Beach to make shelters from what they might find on a beach if they were been shipwrecked.  Patrols did entirely different tepees from wood, plastic and string and supported the sides with rocks and sand.  They slept in their tepees and to their amazement these lasted thru drizzles of rain throughout the night and were still standing strongly come 6:30 a.m. when we all saw daybreak!  We had music to entertain us from the Beach Hut and at 2 a.m. we had a beach feast before turning in!!  One hilarious incident was that Shannon D chose her marshmallow and scooped the melted chocolate from the dish only to find it had set solid hard so that was out of the question!!!  Caitlin told ghost stories which made the girls squeal in fright and even frightened herself!!

We made our way home at 7:30 a.m. feeling stiff and tired from the night’s event and especially from the Children in Need walk on Friday with the school.
