Ascension : Church News
Submitted by The Islander (Clive & Jenny Duncan) 26.11.2009 (Article Archived on 10.12.2009)

Sunday, 29 November 2009, is Advent Sunday when we will be thinking about the second coming of Christ.

THE NEED TO WATCH.

Sunday, 29 November 2009, is Advent Sunday when we will be thinking about the second coming of Christ.   As we await His coming we are urged to stay awake, to be on the alert and pray always.

As we listen to what Jesus had to say to his disciples we know that he is telling all of us the same today.

“Be on your guard, don’t let yourselves become occupied with too much feasting and drinking and with the worries of this life or that day may suddenly catch you like a trap.  For it will come upon all people everywhere on earth.  Be on the alert and pray always that you will have the strength to go safely through all those things that will happen and to stand before the Son of Man.”  (Luke 21: 34-36)

Be on the alert and praying always is Jesus call to us.

Have a pleasant week.

Canon Clive.

In addition to the Holy Eucharist at 10.30 am on Sunday there will be the Advent Carol Service at 7pm.

On behalf of the Ascension Day Fair Committee I wish to extend our thanks and appreciation to the Ascension Island Girl Guides for organizing the tombola, football and on sale items on the day of the Fair and apologies for not naming them in the Accounts.  The amount raised from these fund raising events appeared in the Accounts published in the Islander dated 1 November 2009.
