Ascension : Heritage Notes
Submitted by The Islander (Shari Parkhill) 19.11.2009 (Article Archived on 03.12.2009)

There is a lot going on at the Museum these days. We have started to erect the WWII US Army signs that identify the sites of various buildings, installations and areas.

So you might come across these small white signs on your treks around Ascension.  There are still many to put up, but we will get there.  When the project is completed, we will compile a list of sites and GPS coordinates that will be available for interested people.  Thanks to Mike and Gene for their help with this project.  It involves some serious off-roading with an SUV, and then in some cases, still carrying cements, pick, shovel & water quite a ways!

The collection of Mullenix WWII photographs has been catalogued and scanned.  We will let everyone know when some are printed and on display.  Please drop by and see the recent additions to our collection – the trophy, compilation of wartime letters and other exhibits!

We are still in need of volunteers at the Heritage Society.  If you have any time to spare, we can keep you from getting bored!  Thanks to our small but dedicated staff for the many hours you put into preserving and conserving the history of Ascension.
