Retards 2 v 0 Harts
The 8th running of the annual Flipper Trophy Final, run as a dedication to the memory of Andrew “Flipper” Bennett, began with the players and officials being presented to Penny Bennett and Geoff Augustus before standing around the centre circle to lead the large crown in observing a minute’s silence in Andrew’s memory.
The action began when Ryan “House” launched a high ball out to Jeremy Constantine whose shot was well saved by the Harts’ Keeper, Darrel “Reg” Henry. House fire the next shot wide after good work on the right wing by Schmichael Benjamin, before Steve Caswell gave the Retards the lead by scoring with a tap in.
The Harts worked Paul Thomas, the Retards’ Keeper, for the first time when he collected a high ball lobbed into his area by Daniel Yon. Previous to this Cardinal had been looking marooned on his own, up front for the Harts. Paul then took two attempts to deal with a high cross from Mario Williams on the Harts’ wing. The Harts almost equalised when a shot from Jeffrey Stroud raced across the face of the Retards’ goal and struck the left post after Jeffrey had created space for his strike on the edge of the Retards’ box.

Daniel Yon then shot high, while in reply William Johnson hit, what looked like a fairly tame shot at Reg, tame until Reg allowed the ball between his legs, however the Keeper dived backwards to trap the ball.
Just before half time Eugene Bennett went off injured, probably due to the strain from carry around the enormous brunch he had consumed at Tasty Tuckers before the game!
The second half started with Harts on the attack; Billy Minto crossed from the left and Ricco Williams only just failed to connect with the ball at the far post. Then Jeffrey went close for the Harts and “House” made a good defensive clearance for a corner that the Harts made little of. Retards replied with Schmichael firing his shot at Reg.
The Harts continued to try to level the score; Jeff took a free kick, hitting the ball into the Retards’ wall and Billy took a shot at Paul who stopped it for the Retards. “Chelsea” Pete then began trying to tempt the tiring Billy off the pitch with the offer of cold castle; unusual for “Chelsea” Pete to be so generous when getting the beers in!
Next JJ “Cinderella” Buckley made a timely tackle to foiled the Retards latest attack. (Cinderella as one of his boots was found on the Harts bus on Sunday.)
Next Reg made a good save with his feet from a shot by Colin “Shoe” Thomas who had got on the end of a good through ball from midfield. Shoe then broke through the Harts defence again but Reg was quickly off his line to block the shot.
At the other end Collin “Kimbo” Yon made an air kick as the ball passed in front of him but he was rescued by House who cleared the ball.
Retards doubled their lead when Man of the Match Shoe lobbed Reg after latching on to another defence splitting pass. He then had another shot from left to right across the Hart’s goal face, before the Ref blew for full time.
Thanks to the staff of C&W for continuing to make the Flipper Trophy such a popular success and fitting tribute to Andrew. And thanks to the Retards for the slurp of champagne on Sunday – by then I had something to celebrate too (If you don’t know what I was celebrating, ask a Loser, sorry I mean Man Utd Supporter!!)
