In St. Mark’s Gospel chapter 10, verses 46 to 52 we read about the blind man Bartimaeus.  He lived a life of darkness with no hope and had to depend on others to help him.

It must have been very difficult for people who were blind back then because they didn’t have access to the aids that are available today.  Not having such aids Bartimaeus had to depend on others even to the point of helping him to the street corner to beg and to lead him home again.  He had to rely totally on others to meet his daily needs.

He had heard Jesus was passing by and began to have hope. He couldn’t see the way to go but he could shout.  Jesus heard him and called to him “What do you want me to do for you?”  Most probably the people who also heard what Jesus asked Bartimaeus expected him to ask for money but he knew exactly what he wanted.  “Master let me see again.”  When his need was met he didn’t turn away but instead followed Jesus along the road.

Jesus is asking the same question today, “What do you want me to do for you?”.  Just think about Bartimaeus and his response.

May our eyes be opened so that we can see and follow Jesus.

Have a pleasant and enjoyable week.
