Ascension : From St Marys Church
Submitted by The Islander (Clive & Jenny Duncan) 22.10.2009 (Article Archived on 05.11.2009)

Bishop John arrived on Ascension on 1 October and became Acting Vicar of St Mary's Parish while Canon Clive and Jenny were on leave in the UK.

Bishop John arrived on Ascension on 1 October and became Acting Vicar of St Mary's Parish while Canon Clive and Jenny were on leave in the UK.  He has been active in conducting Services and has conducted an Assembly for the Primary School and spent time answering questions of students at the school.  He will also be present at the Harvest Festival Assembly and Lunch at the school this Wednesday.

The highlight of his visit was the Confirmation he conducted of five candidates in St Mary's Church on Sunday 18 October.  The candidates were: Alberta Knipe, Martin Andrews, Jonah and Jamie Williams and Jason Benjamin.  The Church was packed for a lively and spirit-filled service.  This was followed by refreshments under the marquee.

Bishops John departs for St Helena on the RMS on Thursday, 22 October, and the Ascension community extend their best wishes to him.

Cedric Henry
