Ascension : Hash Trash - Hash No: 1279
Submitted by The Islander (Shari Parkhill) 15.10.2009 (Article Archived on 29.10.2009)

A small but brave lot of hounds collected at the NASA site for what was advertised as Stinky Nuts’ last hash (more on that later!).

Hash No:  1279

Hare:  Stinky Nuts

Hounds:  Madam Balls Up, Manbeater, Moaning Angel, Ball Handler, Bloodsucker, Secret Squirrel, Penguin, Premature Launcher, Mattie, Miriam, Berard

Apres Hashers: Vina, Sophie, Tracey

A small but brave lot of hounds collected at the NASA site for what was advertised as Stinky Nuts’ last hash (more on that later!).  It seems that a lot of the usual hashers had decided that a bit of religion was in order and headed to the Gospel Concert instead.  We heard it was a nice evening – well done to all involved!

The hazard warning included a steep climb, and it was readily apparent that another trek up the back side of Weather Post was in order.  Despite a considerable amount of whinging from the crowd, one person in particular who will remain nameless but just returned from a lengthy and lazy leave, most took off into the gully.  All except Billy Graham who decided to cadge a lift back to base with Tracey!

Slipping & sliding into the gully we went, and then climbing back up the other side to the track.  Then it was on-on to the circle check at the base of the mountain.  Although this was the last chance to bail, all decided to continue, even the main whinger!

A steep climb indeed it was, climbing up to Weather Post from this direction.  Many thanks to Berard who showed his gentlemanly nature and helped a couple of ladies over a few rough spots, even providing the shove needed to make it up a few tough bits!  Although, if truth be told, we think he was the envy of a couple of the other guys!

Eventually all made it to the top.  Despite Stinky Nuts instructions to stick to the left, a few hashers became confused by the old hash and headed off in the wrong direction.  Bloodsucker and Berard headed to the letterbox deliberately, in order to replace bits in the box.  Along the way they found Secret Squirrel wandering around.

After the repairs to the letterbox were complete, off the stragglers went, looking for the real trail.  Eventually, after a brief detour to a scenic lookout and a Kodak moment, they headed down the other side of the mountain, only to be hailed from afar.  It seems that Penguin and Miriam had also gotten a bit misdirected by the old hash!

While the FRBs charged along the track, the slower group continued on their way.  The ladies fell even farther behind, having such a leisurely stroll that even when a concerned hare showed up in the land rover, they decided to continue on under their own steam.  What’s a 2 & ½ hour hash, anyway?  Just a walk in the park.

Lovely curry awaited the group when they returned.  A few more hashers took off early in order to attend the concert, so it turned out to be a rather early evening for all!

Thanks to Stinky Nuts for a challenging hash!  If it makes anyone feel better, the whinger got hers back on the dive the next day!

Next Week:  Klinka Klub (And this really is Stinky Nuts last hash, unless he finds a way to extend yet again!).  Come along for a great farewell barbecue.  Please bring a plate of eats. Hare:  Bloodsucker
