Past week’s Weather

UK: The week started much like last week with high pressure in the southeast giving dry weather and low pressure in the north and west giving wet and windy weather.  The high pressure in the southeast gave way on Wednesday as the remnants of Hurricane Bill crossed the UK. This was then followed by a cooler, showery west to northwest flow for Friday and Saturday.

Falklands: Apart from Friday the Falklands saw one low pressure area after another cross the Islands from the west. This kept the weather generally on the cold side with periods of rain and the threat of sleet and snow.

Ascension: A pretty dry week was had by most of Ascension, though most days started cloudy with a spot or two of rain in the air around dawn. The exception was Saturday when the showers produced low cloud well into the afternoon.

St. Helena: A generally bright week though rather a lot of cloud at times. The cloud was particularly thick and persistent Tuesday Evening when most of the week’s rainfall fell on the Met station.

Farewell

After a whole year living on Ascension I find myself writing my last MetChat, I do hope you have enjoyed my little missives, occasional jokes, interesting weather and environmental facts.  As I head back to the UK 11th Sept,  I would like to wish all readers the very best for the future. It has certainly been a pleasurable experience living and working on Ascension Island and while I look back and think there were some things I could have done differently -  I could not wish to have met a more friendly group of people than the people from St. Helena. Take care; look after yourselves, each other and your lovely Islands.
