The hounds all gathered at the Turtle Ponds for the start of the hash. Awed by the rollers breaking on to Long Beach, we were almost relieved that the on-on headed away, even if went straight up Cross Hill. It wasn’t too far until the first circle check, a welcome break for those huffing and puffing their way up the steep vertical incline. It was soon off again, still climbing. The slower hashers thought that it was pretty soon to have another circle check, but there were the FRB’s, all congregated at the top of the next rise. Just as the slowpokes arrived, off went the FRB’s, heading back down. Seems they decided to wait at the back arrow and make sure the slowpokes didn’t get to take advantage of their speed, and avoid the nasty climb!
Off we went, sliding down the scree, until we hit the rocky bits we had been warned about. A bar check stopped the crowd, and off went the FRB’s in search of the true path. Although relieved to find out it didn’t head up the steepest slope, we soon discovered that our luck wouldn’t hold up for long. Big surprise. A climb followed, and then another dash across the rocks, right past the old tanks. Then came the best part, a nice steep scramble up a rocky, slippery slope. When we reached the top, the circle check was a welcome sight. After everyone caught their breath, it was a mad dash by the FRB’s across the tracks. The slower hashers had a nice amble and enjoyed the view.
Finally, we made a turn and it was all down hill from there, especially for PoohBah, who decided it might be easier to slide down the scree on his bottom! After that, he decided that it might be safer to ride, and Fido had a passenger the rest of the way back. At the bottom of the hill, most made a mad dash back along the road behind Long Beach, eager to hit the refreshments.
Everyone relaxed at the Turtle Ponds, most of the littler hashers having a dip in them along with Paddy. Great food was provided, and a nice relaxing time followed. Thanks to Old Croc & Baywatch Babe and their other halves for a great hash, and great food.
Next Week: Northeast Bay Road (just go until you find the vehicles!)
Hares: Morticia & Bloodsucker
Note: The Hash formal has been rescheduled to March 6. Be ready to dress up and have fun.
