South Atlantic weather
Here on Ascension, we’ve had plenty of fine weather this last week, with just a couple of showery days. Our parent island had a decent end to the week, after a blustery, showery first half. Down in the Falklands, the Winter continues. Several inches of snow were reported at the start of the week, but high pressure brought some fine, settled, but cold weather for the end. More cold and snowy weather is expected for the Falklands this week.
Meteor watch
If you’re out in the evening, or even during the night (shame on you) cast an eye skywards and look out for the Delta Aquarids. These meteors are of medium speed and faint in brightness, but may be seen between Sunday 26th and Tuesday 28th July.
Floods in England
During Thursday and Friday last week, a low tracking north up the North Sea brought unusually persistent and heavy rain to North East England. Parts of Durham city centre were flooded after the river Wear burst its banks, rising 4 metres above its normal level. Flooding also occurred in Teeside, as well as in the towns of Morpeth and Rothbury in Northumberland, where severe flooding occurred just last September
