ASCENSION: A typically average week for the time of year with long sunny periods most days, but also some patchy cloud from time to time which produced a few relatively light rain showers.
ST HELENA: Apart from some rain showers on Monday and again over this last weekend, Saturday evening and early Sunday, it has been a mainly fine, dry week with sunny spells and a typically moderate E’ly breeze.
UK: The headline for the UK this last week was the heatwave. High pressure to the east and low pressure to the west brought a plume of very warm air northwards from its source over Spain and the Mediterranean. Maximum temperatures in many parts were around 31Celsius, probably a little hotter in towns and cities. This hot rather humid weather set off some heavy thundery showers over many parts of Britain, though Brize Norton and much of southern and SE England escaped the worst of these. It remained very warm overnight with minimum temps typically 17 to 19C. From about Friday a cooler regime spread over the UK from the Atlantic, bringing some rain showers and a relief from the rather oppressive heat.
FALKLANDS: Monday brought strong N’ly winds and a change from the previous week’s cold snowy weather. The weather remained mixed, mostly rather cool and cloudy during the week, with occasional rain or drizzle. It was rather cold and frosty again for a while during Wed, Thur and Fri when daytime temperatures typically only reached 2 or 3 Celsius.
