Ascension : Hash Trash No 1265 Patio 13 the Base
Submitted by The Islander (Soo Matthews) 25.06.2009 (Article Archived on 09.07.2009)

The on-on started without any hash – was this an environmental trend we were setting?

The on-on started without any hash – was this an environmental trend we were setting?  The middle bit didn’t have any either apparently but all was well as we headed of along the road towards the base for the first of the 9 – yes 9 – circle checks!

Here there was a choice – to climb or not to climb that was the question!  Those who were feeling less energetic took the low road whilst those with a spring in their step took the high road – and higher and higher until they were at the top of Red Hill.  Here they had one of those hashing favourites – a back arrow!

At the top there were several break away factions!  The first of these decided they had had enough and they headed the steep way down on the base side of the hill ending up at the fence line.  They then followed the fence line back towards Georgetown and then headed back to patio 13.  These kind souls set the BBQ going and had a nice long rest before the rest of us were even half way round!  This did not stop some intrepid (stupid?) souls from trying to come down the back side to join the rest of us round the back of Red Hill!  One who will remain nameless actually persisted in the quest to come down the backside and defied all the odds by succeeding – a possible new name perhaps?!  The rest decided to play it safe and jogged/ran back down the way they had come then picked up the hash eventually coming along the road towards Command Hill.

Meanwhile the WATs had headed on over the gently undulating flats and were heading towards the road at the bottom of Command Hill.  At the circle check here there were 3 options.  (1) Go up Command Hill the steep way! (2) Take a short cut along the road that heads to the Airhead or (3) take the main road back to the base.

Option 1 started with the steep climb then a cut along the top to Command Hill caves then down the rather steep side until they made it back on to the road to the airhead.  Here they joined the rest of us although not having stopped at the caves for some exploration we were some way in front.

From here options 1 and 2 followed the road along the fence line back towards the main road and finally back to base.  The FRBs who had by now caught up with the WATs on the road decided they did not fancy the run up Command Hill and chose the road to the Airhead as their way forward.

With everyone safely accounted for back at the patio the hotdogs and burgers were soon flowing thanks to Fugitive’s excellent cooking skills!  Mind you he did get a bit bossy about things a little later on and hung up his BBQing equipment with a shout of ‘You’re on your own now!’

Then it was time for some namings!  These poor people had no idea this was on the cards as this was their first their one and only hash as they fly out this week!  All three stood together and Matt was named Dirty Dancer, Steve was named Nappy Man and Mike was named Krypton Factor.

Then it was the turn of one of the longest serving hash members to step into the circle and be renamed!  Following some cheeky antics at the ADF hash involving a toilet seat 100Watt will now be known as Toilet Tosser!

A great hash Bloodsucker and Phil – well done and thank you very much!  Sorry only a very few of the hashers actually did the whole hash as set.

Après Copper Balls

Next week – Klinka Klub – bring a plate of eats Fugitive, Switch Hitter and Major NB This is Fugitive’s last hash so let’s see everyone there!

Below – the hashers at the top of Red Hill decide whether to risk it by coming down the back side!
