Ascension : Two Boats School - Week 36 22/06/09
Submitted by The Islander (Soo Matthews) 25.06.2009 (Article Archived on 09.07.2009)

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Year 11

Year 11 and their parents enjoyed their farewell meal at Two Boats Club on Saturday night.  After some fond reminders of their time at Two Boats School in the form of photos from years gone by and a short formal speech the group enjoyed the disco provided by Schmichael Benjamin.

A great night was had by all and particular thanks go to Delphia, Sam, Sheree and Laura at Two Boats Club for looking after us and feeding us so well.

Formal Progress files and awards will be given out at the end of year awards assembly on 10th July.

All the staff at Two Boats School wish the group all the very best for the future and we look forward to hearing about all their adventures.

Art club

Unfortunately there will be no art club for Middle school this week due to meetings taking place.

Primary Challenge

This week we are building a pyramid landscape – just like those Egyptian slaves.  See the board to pick up your details and enjoy!

St Helena Island Games Team

Two Boats School would like to thank the St Helena Island Games team for visiting us today to tell us about the challenges they face in their forthcoming games.

It was interesting to hear all about their training and past experiences.  We would like to wish them all the very best for the games which take place in Åland between 27th June and 4th July.  Åland is a Swedish speaking region of Finland.  For more information about the games please visit the website www.islandgames.net where you can find out about the 25 islands who are members of the Island Games.

Baptist Services

Nick Clevely will be holding Baptist services on Thursday and Sunday evenings in the school hall starting at 7:30pm until 14th July.  All are welcome to attend.

Dates for your diary

‘Gel’

Please keep the 9th July free for our end of year Primary Production of ‘Gel’.  Tickets will be on sale shortly.  Details also in the Islander.

End of year awards

The end of year awards assembly will take place on Friday 10th July at 8:30am.  Parents of those receiving awards will receive invitations shortly.

4th July

As you will be aware from adverts around the island the Base is having a huge 4th July celebration this year.  The day will be very family orientated with lots of prizes and give-aways especially for children.  I hope that you will all find some time to visit for the day.

MarieAnne Dennis has let us know that the funds raised from one particular activity involving pie throwing will be donated to school.  We would like to thank all concerned for this kind thought.

Porter Memorial Run/Walk

This will take place on 28th June and is in memory of the Porter family.  There are 3 options to the walk (1) From Two Boats Club up Sisters and down the other side to English Bay

(2) From Two Boats Club along the road all the way to English Bay

(3) Junior race – Camel sign to English Bay

See this week’s Islander for further details.

Armed Forces day

Saturday 27th June marks the first Armed Forces Day.  Many families on the island have family members in the forces and all at Two Boats School would like to say we thank all those in the armed forces for the work they do around the world.
