LONG SERVICE AWARD IN GIRLGUIDING

Cheryl Eileen Anthony MBE, came to Ascension Island with her parents in 1969 at the age of 7 years old.

Cheryl was 9 years old when she became a Patrol Leader in Brownies, and later at the age of 10 she joined the Girl Guides which led her to becoming Patrol Leader 2 years later.  Leaving school at the age of 15 years old in 1977, Cheryl resigned from the Guides and began work at the Administrator’s Office as his Secretary for 7 years.

Becoming married and having 3 children, Cheryl had no intention of going back to Girlguiding until their daughter Kirsty became a Rainbow and she was asked to be a Unit Helper in Brownies.  Her Unit name was Tawny Owl for 2 years and in 1995 the Girlguiding Unit needed a Leader so she took on the role of Guide Guider.

Although Cheryl had to take time out when she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2006, she did not resign and continued her duty on her return to the island after treatment in the UK.

Cheryl has served 14 years in the 1st Ascension Girlguiding Units.

All at the 1st Ascension Girlguiding Units wishes Cheryl the best of luck in the future of her continued dedication in her leadership as a Guide Guider.
