Ascension : Police Report
Submitted by The Islander (Police Ascension) 18.06.2009 (Article Archived on 02.07.2009)

In the near future the AIG will be marking out the road system and parking area around the Pier Head.

THE EMERGENCY NUMBER FOR THE POLICE IS:

6666

This number is staffed 24/7 if it is a genuine emergency please use it.

Just because there is not a Police Officer in the Police Station it does not mean there are no officers on duty.

PARKING RESTRICTIONS – PIER HEAD

In the near future the AIG will be marking out the road system and parking area around the Pier Head.  This is to stop traffic causing confusion and jams on the days when the RMS St Helena arrives.  It will allow easy access to the Pier Head for essential and sometimes large vehicles that have to perform duties there.  It will also allow Fire, Ambulance and other emergency service vehicles access in an emergency.

The road will include in certain areas, a yellow line system which will restrict parking, these yellow lines will be lawful and can be enforced, which could result in a fine for anyone who defies the parking restrictions.

Vehicles will be allowed to set down and pick up passengers and bags in the areas provided.

SINCE OUR LAST UPDATE

Enquiries are still continuing into the report of a prowler in Two Boats.  Anyone with any information or reports of suspicious behaviour can contact the Police in confidence if they wish.

We have received reports of littering round the area of AIG Corner in Georgetown, officers are patrolling that area on a regular basis to deter any such offences.

Two persons have been dealt with for exceeding the speed limit.

One for a defective brake light.

We have dealt with one minor Road Traffic Collision.

One person is being investigated for offences or assault and public order.

A suspect object was found in the area of the guns on Cross Hill, it was thought to and explosive fuse or detonator.  The Police requested the assistance of the RAF in this matter, and the object was subsequently found to be harmless.

Police attended a report of trespassing and dealt with the incident.

We also dealt with two separate incidents of persons making threats to another.

A report was received of loud music coming from some premises, and the persons concerned were advised.

Currently we are investigating the theft of electrical equipment from a vehicle parked on the US Base.

Police attended a fire alarm which turned out to be a false alarm.

Our immigration duties involved us in repatriating a sick seaman taken of a tanker to his home country.
