Ascension : Two Boats School - Week 34 08/06/09 Submitted by The Islander (Soo Matthews) 11.06.2009 (Article Archived on 25.06.2009)
Dear Parents/Guardians, Splash gala: We all had a wonderful time on Friday morning at the gala in Georgetown pool.
It didn’t even rain on us! The Lower School were very competitive and tried their best for their team, all cheered on by enthusiastic mums, dads, grandparents, carers, brothers, sisters and friends. It all came down to a tense final. Winners were the Whales and Dolphins.
Thanks to the staff for organising the event, Jonny on the mic, Mrs Tobin presenting medals, and all the supporters.
KS1, 2 and Optional SATs
These are taking place for the Primary sector this week. Please help your child by making sure they have an early night and a good breakfast in the morning.
W.E.D.
Last week secondary school students made good use of plastic carrier bags by turning them into turtles. The final results can be seen at the back of the school hall and look very effective. Winners will be announced in next week’s newsletter.
Two Boats village and the road to Travellers look much better as a result of everyone’s litter picking efforts - well done to Middle 2 and secondary students who found a wide variety of rubbish and made sure it was collected up and disposed of correctly.
We hope that the community will help to maintain this high level of cleanliness and dispose of cans and bottles in the correct way – by keeping them in the car and putting them in the bin on their return home. Thank you to everyone for all the work last week towards W.E.D. in particular to Mrs Andrews for promoting this not only in school but the wider community.
School Governors Committee – the next meeting is on 23rd June – if you have any items you would like to have discussed at the meeting please let one of the parent governors know by Wednesday so that they can be added to the agenda.
Consultation on Dress Code
This consultation was issued last week and is on green paper. Please ensure that you return your slips by Friday 12th June. If you have been on leave and missed the newsletter please contact Tavie for a copy.
Primary challenge
Our Monday assemblies are stories from the Old Testament part of the Christian Bible this term. For these first weeks we are exploring the stories of Moses – from the babe in the bulrushes to wise old man. Each week you can recount part of the story, I’ll make picture strips and illustrations for you to use (which will be placed on the primary challenge board). Middle school will be expected to submit a paragraph or two, Lower school some sentences to accompany the pictures. Week one is on the board today! Mrs B.
ASDAN
Chae and Jamie have successfully achieved their Bronze Award for the ASDAN Course and are currently working towards the Silver Award.
The external moderators were so impressed with the work they had produced for their portfolios that they have asked their permission to use samples on their website as examples of good practice!
Chae said, “I am very proud of achieving the Bronze Award and that my work is to be used on the ASDAN website.”
Jamie commented, “It is a good thing that our work is to be put on the website because it shows off the work we did and shows that it was of a high standard. That’s cool!”
If you have any questions or queries about anything related to school please feel free to contact us at school and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Yours Sincerely,
Soo Matthews
