It was a joy to have Padre Sheila Munro with us on Pentecost Sunday to celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit on the disciples.

It was a joy to have Padre Sheila Munro with us on Pentecost Sunday to celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit on the disciples.

When Jesus told his disciples that he was leaving them they found it had to accept that the one they had come to love and depend on was about to go. He told them it is for your own good that I go away, unless I go the Spirit will not come to you, but if I go I will send him to you.

Jesus knew that the disciples needed help with the entire work he had given them to do after he left and so he sent them the Holy Spirit .

On the day of Pentecost, the day the disciples received the Holy Spirit, they were all changed men.  They were able to do things they considered they were incapable of doing.  But when they started out on their mission they found that their hearts were on fire to bear witness Jesus resurrection and to preach his gospel of salvation. They soon discovered that they had gifts within them that needed to be released.

We too have gifts that need to be released and this can only be done through the help of the Spirit of Jesus if we are to become God’s witnesses.
