Ascension : John Travolta drops in on Ascension Island
Submitted by The Islander (Islander Internet Editor) 28.05.2009 (Article Archived on 11.06.2009)

During the early hours of Thursday 21st May 2009, John Travolta, accompanied by his wife Kelly Preston and daughter Ella, made a brief visit to Ascension Island on their way from South Africa back to the USA.

The aircraft in which they arrived, a Boeing 707, belongs to John and is called “Jett Clipper Ella” after their children Jett (who tragically died earlier this year), and their daughter Ella. John is a qualified pilot himself and acts as an official goodwill “Ambassador for Aviation” for Qantas, the Australian airline.

The visitors were greeted by The Administrator and Major Block who both then accompanied them to Long Beach, Georgetown to see the Green Turtle nesting site. John and his family were very impressed to see adult and baby turtles.

Word of the visit had evidently spread quickly around the island as a small number of people happened to be on Long Beach to meet the family and have their photos taken with them!

The visit of John Travolta and his family ended at 04:30 when their aircraft left Wideawake Airfield
