Ascension : Police Report
Submitted by The Islander (Police Ascension) 21.05.2009 (Article Archived on 04.06.2009)

We are now in a position to start to tape record suspect interviews in line with UK Police Services and the Police And Criminal Evidence Act.

THE EMERGENCY NUMBER FOR THE POLICE IS:

6666

This number is staffed 24/7 if it is a genuine emergency please use it.

Just because there is not a Police Officer in the Police Station it does not mean there are no officers on duty.

TAPE RECORDED INTERVIEWS

We are now in a position to start to tape record suspect interviews in line with UK Police Services and the Police And Criminal Evidence Act.  This will ensure that contents of any interview is recorded correctly and fairly.  Defence advocates will have full access to the tape recorded interviews.  The long term effect is that it will reduce the number of challenges made in court thus saving court time, and ambiguities can be listened to and ironed out.  It will also reduce the length of time suspects have to spend in the Police Station when being investigated.

REPORTS OF A ‘PEEPING TOM’ – TWO BOATS

Local residents have reported sightings of a ‘peeping tom’ in the village area during the evening.  If any person sees anyone behaving suspiciously please contact the Police on 6666, do not approach any person and wait until the police arrive.

If anyone as information about whom this person may be please contact the Police on 6412 or speak to any Police Officer.

SINCE OUR LAST REPORT

Whilst carrying our duties as immigration officers during April 09 we dealt with five ships processing crews and passengers.  One was the cruise ship Rotterdam with over one thousand passengers.

Police were called to the scene of a road traffic collision, the driver of the vehicle was breath tested and the case is currently under investigation.

Another person was spoken to about his abusive behaviour.

One person received a verbal warning for driving over the speed limits through the US Base and onto Hogan’s Bypass.

SEAT BELT LAW IS COMING

Sergeant Dave SISMEY – 18th May 2009.
