I AM THE VINE YOU ARE THE BRANCHS, WHOEVER REMAINS IN ME, WITH ME IN HIM, BEARS FRUIT IN PLENTY; OR CUT OFF FROM ME YOU CAN DO NOTHING. (John 15: 1-8)
Every year we bring in flowers from the United Kingdom for Mothering Sunday to arrive here day or so nearest to the Sunday. On their arrival they are put in a cooler and only taken out when they are made up into the posies. However, although they are cared for in this way they will eventually wither and die as they have lost their life source from the plant.
Jesus tells us that cut off from him we can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me is like a branch that has been thrown away, he withers; these branches are collected and thrown on the fire and they are burnt.
As branches Jesus wants us to bear much fruit and to be productive in our Christian life but this can only can happen if we remain a part of the true vine.
Have a pleasant and enjoyable week.
Canon Clive.
