Ascension : Church News
Submitted by The Islander (Clive & Jenny Duncan) 07.05.2009 (Article Archived on 21.05.2009)

When we had the Rotterdam in port last Thursday a number of the tourists came to visit St. Mary’s Church.  As they moved around I was reminded that we have a church that we all should be proud of here on Ascension Island.

From the moment I arrived there was a continuous flow of people making their way in the sunshine from the area of the Turtle Nest Shop to the Church.  I had the privilege of meeting up with a number of interesting people and answering the countless questions like when was the Church built, the type of records that are maintained by the Church, congregation numbers and so on.

I have no doubt they enjoyed their visit as a number of them came back to spend some quiet time before returning to their ship.

Visitors are always most welcome to St. Mary’s Church.  The doors are always open.

Enjoy your week.

Canon Clive
