ASCENSION ISLAND WORKS AND SERVICES AGENCY


 


The Agency requires 1 Technician, 4 General Workers, 2 Plumbers, 2 Masons and a Carpenter to work on Ascension Island for a short-term Contract for the duration of the Infrasound Project, which has been awarded to the Agency.  This Project is estimated to take approximately 9 months to complete, starting in March 2004. 


 


The normal conditions of service will apply and contracts will be offered on a Single/Unaccompanied basis only and is subject to satisfactory medical fitness for physical outdoor work for the duration of the contract.  Free accommodation and meals will be provided.


 


In addition to having the ability to work in the above posts the successful applicants may also be required to carry out as a core function of each post stevedore duties  (ship work) and will be required to work a 12-hour shift when performing this function.  Successful applicants may also be required to work weekends when performing these and other duties.  Overtime rates will apply for duties performed over and above the 40-hour week.  In addition to this, you may likewise be required to perform such other tasks, which may reasonably be required of you.


 


The basic starting Salaries (before tax) per annum pending on experience and based on a 40-hour week are as follows:


 


General Workers                  - £4,635.00


Plumbers                                - £5,974.00


Masons                                 - £5,974.00      


Carpenter                               - £5,974.00     


 


The 40-hour week is spread over Monday to Friday working from 8am to 5pm with a one-hour lunch break.

The Agency requires a Carpenter to work in their Works & Services Department.  The Agency provides a wide range of services to a number of organisations working on the Island.  Its services include, New Works & Maintenance, Marine Services, Mechanical & Electrical Services, Public Works Services and Transport.


 


The Carpenter’s post is within the Maintenance and New Works Section and reports directly to the Works Foreman but is responsible to the Works Supervisor.


 


In addition to having the ability to undertake a wide range of carpentry duties, the successful applicant will also be required to carry out as a core function of this post, stevedore duties and will be required to work a 12-hour shift and at times, weekends when performing these duties.  Overtime rates will apply for duties performed over and above the 40-hour week.  In addition to this, you maybe required to perform such other tasks, which may reasonably be required of you.


 


It is essential that the applicant has a previous experience of carpentry work and has gained an appropriate qualification or competency certificate.  A clean, valid driving licence from Classes A and above is also required.


 


The Job is Graded at Level 4 with a minimum and maximum salary band of £5,768 - £8,755 (before tax) per annum.  The successful applicant’s salary will fall within this salary band and will depend on qualifications and experience.  


 


The post is offered as a Single Status Contract for one year.

The Electrician’s post is within the Mechanical & Electrical Services Section and reports directly to the M & E Foreman but is responsible to the Works Supervisor.


 


In addition to having the ability to undertake a wide range of electrical duties, the successful applicant will also be required to carry out as a core function of this post, stevedore duties and will be required to work a 12-hour shift and at times, weekends when performing these duties.  Overtime rates will apply for duties performed over and above the 40-hour week.  In addition to this, you maybe required to perform such other tasks, which may reasonably be required of you.
