Submitted by The Islander (Soo Matthews) 25.03.2009 (Article Archived on 08.04.2009)

The year 9 students have now started to look at the courses they will choose to study next year in year 10.

Week 24

23/03/09

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Year 9 Options evening

The year 9 students have now started to look at the courses they will choose to study next year in year 10.  The meeting for parents will be at 6:30pm on Wednesday 25th March in ICT2.  It will last about 2 hours.

The meeting will give parents an insight into what their children’s choices are all about and how you as parents can help.

Assembly

On Friday last week the Administrator came in to school to present some First Aid at Work certificates to Mrs Angela Yon, Mrs Tracey Yon, Mr Colin Duncan and Mrs Helen Owen.  Congratulations to those members of staff.

At the same time Mr Denny also presented the School Council with a cheque for £336 for monies raised from the Valentine Disco.  This did not include the money from photos which will be added once they have all been paid for.

Many thanks go to Mr and Mrs Owen who donated the burgers and food for the disco. This meant the amount raised by students was more than originally thought.

At present the school council are busily looking at catalogues to decide what to spend their hard earned money on.

Mr Denny also presented the cheque for Red Nose Day monies.  This totalled £170 and the cheque will be sent off shortly.

Science Congratulations

Last week years 10 and 11 got the results for their GCSE Science module exam they sat in January.  I am pleased to say they all did very well.  I would also like to thank Ms Lawrence for all her hard work with the groups which helped them gain such great results.

Primary Assembly

This Wednesday Reception class will be doing the Primary Assembly at 8:45am.  Parents are requested to be in the hall by 8:40am please.

Numeracy Evening

Many thanks to all who attended the Primary Numeracy evening last week.  We hope that you found it useful and are happy to answer any further questions you might have about Numeracy teaching in the primary school.

Primary Challenge 23th – 30th March

Last Saturday was National Poetry Day. The Challenge this week is the same for everyone. Choose your favourite poem – it could be a nursery rhyme, a limerick or one of the Revolting Rhymes, or any other poem. You can print it out, down load it from the internet or copy it from a book and then illustrate it. We will then read out some of your favourite poems in the assembly next Monday. I look forward to seeing which poems you choose.

Staffing

This week we welcome Barbara Greentree to our staff as Cleaner and Lunchtime supervisor.

Yours Sincerely,

Soo Matthews
