Submitted by The Islander (Soo Matthews) 12.03.2009 (Article Archived on 26.03.2009)

The RAF dietician will be in school on Thursday morning to talk to secondary students about healthy eating.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Dietician

The RAF dietician will be in school on Thursday morning to talk to secondary students about healthy eating.  There will then be a drop in session at lunchtime for students and staff to talk to her in confidence if they wish.

There will also be a public meeting on Wednesday evening in the school hall at 6:30pm.  This will be an opportunity to talk to her about a range of issues or ask her questions and seek advice.

In addition there is a session at Two Boats Club on Thursday evening specifically about diabetes.

Primary Sector Numeracy Evening

This will take place on Thursday 19th March in the school hall from 6:30pm to 8.30 pm. We will be sending you a programme this week so that you can decide on which sessions you would like to attend.

Year 10 and 11 Parents Evening

This will take place on Tuesday 17th March.  Appointment sheets will be issued to the students.

Year 11 parents are reminded to complete the acknowledgement slip in the full reports which were sent home before the half term holiday. These should be returned to Mr Tobin by tomorrow.

Year 9 Options Process

This term is when year 9 students start to think about the courses they would like to do in Years 10 and 11 for their GCSE exams.  There is a Parent Meeting for Year 9 and their parents on Wednesday 25th March to hear about the various options and hear about how the process will work.

Read Around the Island

All Senior school students will be taking part in a ‘Read Around the Island’ competition with Miss Benjamin which starts today and runs until 17th April.  The students all have a pack for this and their collective reading can win prizes for their year group.  To ensure there is no cheating the students must get their reading verified by a responsible adult.  We appreciate parental help with this in advance.

Scouts

On behalf of all the Scouts I’d like to say a huge thank you to all the Scout Leaders who organised the Scout camp last week.  The boys were a credit to you all with their well organised camps and their mature attitudes.

Primary Challenge 9th – 16th March

A mosaic is a picture made up of lots of small pieces of coloured paper or coloured tiles.

There are small packs of coloured paper by the Primary Challenge board for the children to help themselves.

Reception and Years 1&2

Can you make a mosaic picture using coloured paper? It can be a picture of anything you would like – an animal, playing on the beach or at the park, a flower, or a pattern. You can choose

Middle School

It was St David’s Day on 1st March. Make a mosaic picture of St David. Use your imagination to think of how he would have looked, either crossing the sea in his round boat, or talking to all those people when he reached Wales.

Red Nose Day

This week on Friday 13th March we will be supporting Red Nose Day by encouraging everyone to wear red and bring a £1 donation.

Nursery are also making some cakes and biscuits to sell so a few extra pennies will be needed on Friday for this.

If you have any questions or queries about anything related to the start of the school year please feel free to contact us at school and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Yours Sincerely,

Soo Matthews
