The members of the Heritage Society had to say farewell again to Betty and Roy Haley, who returned to the UK after spending a few months helping us out. Roy will be returning in late March for a month, and we promise Betty that we will keep him very busy, and not let him have time to get bored! Thanks to Roy and Betty for all their help with various projects while they were on Ascension!
George “Jimmy” Young has presented the Heritage Society with the bell from the Soudan wreck. This important maritime artifact will be displayed in the “Wrecks of Ascension” exhibit. We extend our sincerest thanks to Jimmy for sharing this find with us.
The material for the Tonks exhibit has arrived and will soon be on display. The “Islander” exhibit is being redone, and updated, and this will leave us with space for our “Life on Ascension” exhibit. Creation of this display will take some effort, and time, but we promise we will get it done! Any and all volunteers to help us with our ongoing projects would be greatly appreciated.
The Ascension Island Heritage Society wished to thank all Islanders, past and present, who have helped in any way with making the museum what it is today. From Doug Rogers and John Packer through the years to today’s group of dedicated volunteers, we can take pride in our efforts to preserve the heritage of Ascension and present it to Islanders and visitors alike. We have received a number of nice comments recently as to the professional quality of our little museum. We could not have done it without those who have shared their talents, time, expertise, labour and finds with us. Thank you from all of us.
