Week 18

02/02/09

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Chinese New Year and Buddhism

Last week there were some very exciting lessons looking at Chinese New Year and Buddhism.  In Technology the children cooked up some fabulous noodles and used chop sticks with varying degrees of success!

Some children made bright colourful mandalas using glitter instead of coloured sand.  In ancient Tibet, as part of a spiritual practice, monks created intricate mandalas with coloured sand made of crushed semiprecious stones. The tradition continues to this day as the monks travel to different cultures around the world to create sand mandalas and educate people about the culture of Tibet.

Middle 2 presented a Chinese themed play in assembly, Y1/2, Reception and Nursery made some dragons and there were origami cranes and penguins galore!  Sadly no turtles yet as they were a bit tricky!  Mrs Linda Yon said the highlight of the week for her was the Dragon dance with Reception and Nursery which took place in the playground.

At Year 1 and 2’s assembly with Wednesday morning the classes will be sharing their lovely work with each other.

Open day

Next Thursday morning is the next school Open Day and we will provide a programme of events for parents to help give you an idea of what you can expect to see.  You can also see displays of some of the work described above.

Chichester College and Year 11

It is now time for year 11 to get serious about their college applications. Tonight is the parents meeting for the year 11 students who are interested in applying to Chichester College. The meeting will take place at 6:30pm in ICT2 just off the main school hall and is a chance for parents to ask about all those things they are unsure of.

Primary Assessments

This week the primary sector are doing their assessments during lessons.

School Council

School council have been busy thinking about fund raising ideas.

Together with the help of staff they are organising a Valentines/Goth Disco to take place on Friday 13th next week.

There are still lots of details to be sorted out and letters will go out later in the week with further details.

If any parents would like to help out with this event the school council would be glad to hear from you.  Please contact Mrs Linda Yon or Mrs Andrews.

If you have any questions or queries about anything related to the start of the school year please feel free to contact us at school and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Yours Sincerely,

Soo Matthews

Headteacher
