Towards the end of last half term, we participated in an enterprise activity as part of our Awards Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN) course. This involved providing a service and we chose to run a car wash for staff within the school. The aim was to provide an effective service that resulted in the business making a profit. In order to complete the challenge we had to provide this service for a minimum of 10 hours – we completed 18 hours in total.
To ensure we completed all areas of the challenge there were a number of things we had to do before and after the actual car wash.
Firstly we had to design and send out a questionnaire to find out if the service we wanted to provide was required. Results from the questionnaire were evaluated and we found that staff would be receptive to such a service.
Next we had to find out the cost of materials required for such a venture so we could make a decision about prices for services provided. Once this was determined we had to design an advertisement for potential customers and shopped for materials.

The actual car wash took place in the school playground. Once a vehicle had been cleaned as requested, an invoice that we had designed was sent to the customer along with an evaluation form for them to comment on the service we provided.
Because we were conducting our business on school property, we kept a
record of the water and electricity that was used and this would be deducted from our profits.
The project was successful and our service was deemed satisfactory. A small profit was made which meant that our challenge was successfully completed.
See accounts below:
Monies collected from car wash 44.00
Expenditures
Cleaning materials 31.76
Water 4.56
Electricity 4.94
41.26
Profit 2.74
Staff have enquired about the service continuing to be provided. Unfortunately, because we have other challenges to complete, we are unable to continue providing this service at this time to make an even larger profit.
PS We were all very impressed with the way the boys worked as a team and were very business like in their approach. They did a fantastic job on all the vehicles and learnt a lot along the way. Ms Matthews Headteacher
