This past weekend was very busy at the Fort Hayes Museum. We had a large number of visitors, and lots of volunteers working on various projects. Kate continues to paint the Coach House, which a huge job. It will be so much brighter when it’s done. Thanks, Kate!
Richard painted a wall in the gallery, with a wee bit of help from Shari. The temporary exhibit from Jon Tonks is on its way. I’m sure that many of you will remember Jon taking loads of photos while he was here over a year ago. He has kindly agreed to loan us some of his wonderful photos for a display. When it is in place, we will be having an opening reception. Everyone is invited to come along and have a look at Jon’s photos! Watch this space for more information!
Bobby is working on completing the office. It will be a wonderful place to work when he is done. Thanks go out to Bobby as well for all his help!
Computer problems continue to plague the Heritage Society, and we thank Dave and Jeremy for their help and input. A new computer is on its way. We will soon be able to print more copies of our publications.
Pete & Jill are off this week to St. Helena. We wish them a great trip. We know they will be following up leads on ties to Ascension while there. If anyone can ferret out lost bits of Ascension history, we know it’s them! Have a great trip.
Neil continues to update the philatelic display, and work on the supplement for the Letterbox book. We will be including sections on the Conservation Walks as well in this supplement.
We had to say goodbye recently to Andrea Fortune, who was a great help to us in her time here. Her husband even pitched in while visiting. Thanks to you both!
To all our volunteers, heartfelt thanks! We are making remarkable progress in preserving the history of Ascension. This is our history, wherever we hail from, because for a time in our lives, we are all Ascension Islanders.
