Ascension : GIRLGUIDING CHRISTMAS DIARY Submitted by The Islander (Cheryl Anthony) 15.01.2009 (Article Archived on 29.01.2009)
The 1st Ascension Girlguiding Unit was kept very busy from 5th December to 26th December.

The 1st Ascension Girlguiding Unit was kept very busy from 5th December to 26th December. Our Christmas Party on 5th Dec which was a BBQ was held at our Guide Hut which was beautifully decorated by the girls and Annis.
6th December we were invited to the Brownies and Rainbows Christmas party and organised games for them which they enjoyed along with the Guides!!! That same evening was our joint Carol Singing at Two Boats Club with St. Mary’s Church. The Atlantic Rock band accompanied our singing. At the end Ian Coverdale got everyone present to stand by the band and sing “We Wish You A Merry Christmas”. Mince pies were on sale donated by the Guides and their parents. Wine was served by the church council.
22nd December, an excellent turn out was at Tasty Tucker. Johnny G and Ally-Stu provided live music for our carol singing. Natalie had the table laden with festive nibbles and wine which was enjoyed by all.
24th December, was the day of the Christmas Eve Float Competition. We took part as “Baby Jesus’ Magical Mystery Tour”. Playing the parts were:- Christiane (Joseph), Shannon (Mary), Gemma (Angel Gabrielle), Chelsea (Shepherd), sister Amber (lamb), Robyn, Louanne and Laura (Kings), Twins Nicole and Megan (Santa’s helpers) and Santa (yours truly). The meaning was that Santa and his Elves came to Bethlehem and took everyone on a Magical Mystery Tour. We came in 2nd place and won £100 towards our fundraising. Thank you to Johnny G and his acoustic in accompanying the girls singing “Away in a Manger” on the float. Although Santa was very poorly with shivers, pains, fever etc… nothing stopped him from entertaining the children.
26th December, was our last fundraising event which was the annual Christmas Float tour which goes around the island raising money for the Guides. We all had an enjoyable time and the children at each stop were giving sweeties.
I personally would like to thank the following people for whom these events would not have happened without them:-
Girl Guides for taking part and dressed Christmassy for each occasion;
Robert – who single-handedly made the float and put in hours before, during and after, even with the flu;
Parents/Guardians for allowing your girls to take part on all events;
All the dancers in particular “Carly and Nicola” – these boys know who they are!!!
Corey & Johnny Swain for the music;
Corey for helping to decorate the float;
Dane Wade for painting the sides;
Peter and Jason for driving the tractors;
AIG for the trailer;
VT Merlin for the generator;
WPC Karen for escorting us;
Two Boats School for stage props;
Atlantic Rock Band;
St. Mary’s Church for their donation of £30
Tasty Tucker for their donation of £20 and all who gave generously on all occasions.
AIMS, Two Boats Club, NAAFI, Cedie & Sylvia, McDaniel’s Store & Horses (St.H), Rich Tochtrop & Darryl Webb (States) and Major Block (CSR) all who donated chocs and sweets.
If I have missed anyone out it’s not done deliberately, but once again THANK YOU each and everyone for making our Christmas fundraising events successful.
