Governor Gurr has made several appointments to the Charities Commission and these appointments are to run for three years.

Governor Gurr has made several appointments to the Charities Commission and these appointments are to run for three years.

The new Chairman is Bronwen Yon and the new appointments are Joy George and Carol Thompson who join Frank Wastell as Commissioners.

The Commission will look at whether applying organisations qualify for charitable status and if they do, various benefits are given to them such as exemption from paying income tax. The Commission also encourage and facilitate better management of charitable organisations and they strive to ensure that these organisations are working within the law. In addition, they must investigate any misconduct or mismanagement in the administration of charitable organisations.

Registration for charitable status is voluntary and should be made to the Registrar of Charities, Legal Lands and Planning Department, Essex House, Jamestown

Previous members of the Commission included Brenda Moors-Clingham as Chairman and Ray Ellick and Valerie Yon as Commissioners and the St Helena Government extends its thanks to these persons for their service.
