Ascension : Conservation Weekly
Submitted by The Islander (Conservation Office) 18.12.2008 (Article Archived on 01.01.2009)

Last week the Conservation Department were very busy with passing visitors and tours.

We had an overseas tour group, The Dawn Osborne Tour who we took out to see around Ascension and also off the shores around Ascension, visit to Boatswain Bird Island. The RMS was passing on one of its voyages and so a few passengers on board requested a tour. We would like to thank the Chief of Justice, Charles Ekins and his wife Julia for volunteering with Conservation, also Lucy Caesar and Damien Stevens for volunteering their help with the endemic plants and tours.

Thank You

The Conservation Department would like to thank volunteer Sue Kelley, who will be leaving the island in January next year. Sue has been great volunteer since 2005, and has devoted her time with helping out on the Cetacean Monitoring in addition to helping with the land crab monitoring and also the Hawksbill tagging project and fishing collecting data. We appreciate all your hard work over the years and wish you and your family all the best.

Conservation Centre will be closed for the holidays Thursday 25th December – 28th December and will open again as normal on the Monday 29th December.

Conservation Centre also will be closed on 1st January 2009, and will open as normal on the 2nd January 2009.
