Ascension : Two Boats School - The Snowman Submitted by The Islander (Soo Matthews) 04.12.2008 (Article Archived on 18.12.2008)
In Literacy in year 5 and 6 we have been adding speech and thought to characters in two short films that tell the story through music, one was called ‘The Piano’ and the other was ‘The Snowman’.
We each wrote our own version of ‘The Snowman’ and have taken parts of each of the stories to make one class story. We hope you recognise the story and enjoy reading it.
The Snowman by M2
Past the icy hills, over a frozen field, laid a boy deep in a slumbering sleep. Not aware of the event that was taking place, until cries of laughter filled the street. The boy, hearing the merry tune of laughter, jumped out of bed and rushed to the frosted window. He gave his eyes a good rubbing for he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
What he was seeing was snow, and the boy knew exactly what snow meant. It meant today would be no school and there would be Christmas shopping. Excitedly the boy took off his pyjamas and replaced them with his Arctic-resistant Pants and long sleeve top. He rushed down stairs and was about to escape through the door but before he could even touch it a voice called out to him and stopped him dead in his tracks. The voice called out to him again, it was his mother.
Kyle
“Why are you in a rush dear it’s only Saturday?” said his mum, as the boy shut the door creakily.
He was so excited because once he stepped out the door, there he saw…Snow.
It was his dream to go about firing snow balls at his friends but the only thing was that he hadn’t got any friends, so he thought hard for a moment and then replied.
“Aha I could make a snowman instead.”
Shannon
“Now where should I make it? Over there looks like a good spot,” he thought to himself.
After what felt like a long time he had finally finished.
“It looks great, it’s really big. I love the way that it shimmers in the light. It just needs a big green hat, a dickey bow, a knitted scarf, stones for a mouth, a peach for a nose and 2 strawberries for the eyes.”

Soon after it was getting dark and cold so the boy had to go in side and get his bath and get ready for bed. But before he went to bed he had to scrub his teeth, whilst he was scrubbing his teeth he was looking out through the window at the snowman, then he went to bed.
The boy woke up in the middle of the night and looked out through the window. He couldn’t see the snowman that well because the window was misty, so he went down stairs and opened the door. When he looked out at the snowman he saw that the snowman was taking his hat off. Then the snowman came walking over to him and shook his hand.

The snowman said, “Hello my name is Mr Snowman.”
They went into the house, “this is my house,” said the boy.
Then they saw a cat, the snowman touched the cat.
The cat went “PPPPRRRRR MIOW!” The cat ran away. The boy turned on the TV. The snowman said “ooh” Then they went to a lamp. The boy turned it on and off but the snowman turned it on again.
The snowman turned on the switch and said “MY OH MY OH”.
“Try punching this punchy bag” said the boy.
The snowman replied “OK! HE AHHHHH! Ouch”.
“MR SNOWMAN ARE YOU ALRIGHT?” said the boy immediately.
“I think so” said the snowman.

So the boy took him into the kitchen to try on different noses. One of the noses itched the snowman.
“How about a pineapple nose?” said the boy.
“I will try it on,” the snowman replied.
They laughed and laughed it was so hilarious they had to stop changing noses. The boy turned the tap on but it was getting too hot for the snowman so he turned the tap off. Next he took the Snowman by the fridge and he loved it.
Then he took him into the garden and the snowman saw the quad bike. They jumped on it and drove it around the garden then James saw snowman’s legs melting. They stopped and James took him into the freezer.

“Come up stairs” whispered the boy.
“Coming” the snowman answered.
“Come into this room” the boy called quietly.
As they entered the room they heard a funny noise it was his parents they were fast asleep.
“Shhh!” the boy whispered in a soft voice.
“Why?” replied the snowman.
“They may wake up,”
Suddenly the snowman walked over to the cabinet, there was a set of teeth in a glass of water. The snowman put them in, they both had a great laugh, after a while the snowman took them out because it was getting uncomfortable.

They went into the boy’s room and played on his skateboard. The snowman slid out and hit the balloons, they popped one by one. It scared the snowman and he gave the boy a hug.
Dominic
“You show me something now!” the boy said.
“Okay, “the Snowman replied.
So the snowman took the boy out side and started running, pulling the boy with him. The next thing he knew they were flying high up in the sky. They flew over Big Ben then they flew over the Eiffel tower, it was a magical experience and an amazing sight.
All of a sudden they were going down, down and down until they landed with a thud. The boy’s eye sight went blurry, and he could see a bundle of clouds. Had they landed in the sky? No they couldn’t have. Then his eye sight was pulled together and he could now see that it was actually lots and lots of snowman, all in pretty coloured hats.

They were at the Arctic and they saw Father Christmas. He was surrounded by lots of other snowmen. The boy was excited to see Father Christmas, who gave him a present. He unwrapped the present as fast as he could, and inside was a warm, blue scarf. He wrapped it around his neck and then they had to go home.
When they got home, the boy said good night to the snowman and he went back to bed. He couldn’t sleep well that night, he was desperate to go and play with the snowman. In the morning he ran back downstairs, not bothering to look out of the window to see the snowman. When he got outside he had a terrible shock. The snowman had melted. Adam
