Nominations for Birthday Honours 2009 will need to reach the Honours Secretariat, in the UK quite soon. This will allow for Birthday Honours to be announced on the Queens Official Birthday in June 2009.

The St Helena Government forwards nominations to the UK Team and in the last 10 years, the Island has seen awards of OBE and MBE being made to 21 persons.

Gillian Francis, Senior Assistant Secretary explained that the awards are given for outstanding services, and where possible, the emphasis should be placed on voluntary services.

Nomination forms can be obtained from the Office of the Chief Secretary and should be returned to the Senior Assistant Secretary, the Office of the Chief Secretary, by no later than Friday 28 November 2008.
