Ascension : Conservation Weekly - SITE VISITS WITH THE COUNCILLORS
Submitted by The Islander (Conservation Office) 27.11.2008 (Article Archived on 11.12.2008)

On Thursday, members of the Island Council took time out of their busy schedules to meet with the Conservation Department for a presentation and site visits to the sooty tern colony and Green Mountain.

On Thursday, members of the Island Council took time out of their busy schedules to meet with the Conservation Department for a presentation and site visits to the sooty tern colony and Green Mountain. We are grateful for their time and hope they enjoyed learning about the birds and plants on the island.

REMINDER:  Did you know that the sooty terns are nesting again at Mars Bay?

Now that the sooty terns have returned and are nesting throughout Mars Bay, please DO NOT DRIVE down to Mars Bay.  If you drive to Mars Bay, you will crush the eggs and disturb the nesting birds. You may park at the Wideawake sign and walk down to view the birds.  Better yet, you can book a personal tour to see the birds through the Conservation Centre: x6359.

WELCOME: to Lorna Close who joins the Conservation and Environmental Health Departments this week as a Field Worker.  Thanks to the SAISP for supporting this post.

FAREWELL TO ASCENSION! This will be my last Conservation Weekly as I leave the island and my post as Conservation Officer this week.  I will always remember my experiences here; thank you to all of my friends-you will be missed!

Susanna
