Ascension : Two Boats School - Week 11 17/11/08
Submitted by The Islander (Soo Matthews) 20.11.2008 (Article Archived on 04.12.2008)

Dear Parents/Guardians, School Review, As you are aware the school was inspected last week by Chris Hough a trained Ofsted inspector.

Ms Hough has given verbal feedback to the Administrator and the school SMT and will provide a full written report in the next few weeks.  This will be shared with parents in due course.

Reminders

Monday 17th November Primary parents meeting to hear about how well your child is progressing in school.

Tuesday 18th November School Open Day – your chance to come in and see the school in action during the day.

Children in Need

On Friday 14th November the Primary school had their Teddy Bear picnic on Friday lunchtime in the main school hall at 12:15pm in aid of Children in Need.  We raised £128.40.

Last week Middle 1 carried out a mini enterprise making biscuits to sell on a biscuit stall at lunchtime just after the picnic.  The biscuits cost 10p each and £22 was raised!  Congratulations to Middle 1.

On the other side you can see the whole school photo, some of the biscuits Middle 1 made and some of the children enjoying their picnic lunch with their teddies.

Anti-bullying Week 17th November

Blue wrist bands are on sale to support anti-bullying week.  The wrist bands cost £1 each. Children will be able to wear the bands during this week.

Work in various lessons during the week of 17th November will be focussing on antibullying issues.

If you know or suspect that your child is being bullied please let us know so that we can provide support.

Year 11 Geography Coursework.

It’s that time again for year 11.  Coursework is a very important part of the course and is worth 25% of the overall grade. To fulfil this part of the course students need to collect primary data.  This basically means going out into the community/environment and gathering information.

Therefore over the next week or two you might receive questionnaires from some of these students, based on various aspects of Ascension’s environment.  We would be grateful and thank you in advance if you could spare a few minutes to complete these questionnaires.  Could they be returned to either the student concerned or the school in general as soon as possible. This will allow the students to continue with the data analysis and meet the required deadlines.

Thanks.

Isabel Andrews. Geography Teacher. (On behalf of Year 11 students)

Library Books and DVDs

There are a number of children who have borrowed far more books than they should, in some cases as many as 30 items.  Letters are being sent to those concerned and their borrowing will be suspended until items are returned.  We request that these items are returned as soon as possible so that other borrowers can borrow the items.  The limit of 5 books and 2 DVDs will be reinforced for all borrowers from this week.

Please note there are new opening times in the library and these are shown below-

Monday                       12:30 – 14:45

Wednesday                 17:00 – 18:30

Thursday                     12:30 – 16:30

Saturday                     11:00 – 13:00

Letter Box Stamps competition

Reminder - The competition is to design a stamp for one or all of 4 of the new walks.  There is a display showing the new routes in the hall.  The closing date for the competition is 21st November.  All entries should be returned to Ms Matthews by this date.

There is a display in the school hall of the planned routes for the new Letter box walks which parents are welcome to come and have a look at.

Primary Challenge 17th – 24th November

This week is anti-bullying week, and the challenge is the same for all the children.

Reception, Lower School and Middle School

Design a poster for your classroom to help a new child know what to do if they are bullied.

Yours Sincerely,

Soo Matthews

Headteacher
